Kudo’s to Mr. McCormick for living through this nightmare and bringing his story to all of us. I was captivated for the whole 40 something pages and couldn’t stop reading. My heart hurt to think of the torturous situation that those men were in and Mr. McCormick tells it beautifully and with a dignity that is truly deserved. I was referred to this book by my buddy and at first I was like, not another war story, but this was far from your ordinary war story. This book should be read by everyone and I for one will be recommending it to all. Thank you Michael, first for your service and second for bringing us this heartfelt book, LEST WE FORGET!

Even though i was born after the Viatnam war, across the pond was some kind of a ride for me. Taking me into the experience of the author. The simplicity of the book had touched my heart, it was really nice to read about his simple descriptions of the events back there. I understand the book is fictional but the author Michael Mccormick was a U.S marine back then in viatnam.

Subject: The feelings returned
Although I was not drafted and not willing to enlist, this war became part of life as most of my friends came back wounded physically and emotionally and others died. I thought I had heard all the gruesome stories about being there and the stories about returning home. Many times I sat up late with a friend and a bottle and attempted to work it out. Some did and some didn't.
I came across McCormick's story by accident while looking for some free downloads to read. Crap. The feelings returned and I got chills reading about his account as it was like talking to my buddies in the late 60's. Although written in the fiction category, there's nothing fictitious about this story. It is gripping, horrifying, thrilling, powerful and beautiful. You must read it more than once. Highly recommended!

This gripping and powerful story that Michael McCormick has written really had me hooked from the very beginning. Though it is fiction, it tells the all too real story of what happened to a lot of vets during the Vietnam era through the eyes of a young soldier who, with deep love and admiration for his country, goes off to fight in the war only to be rejected from society upon his return. It's a look into what soldiers faced in those days and how difficult it was for a lot of them to blend back into society especially if they came home severely injured or disfigured, both physically and mentally. I highly recommend this book - very moving and powerful read for sure.

Subject: War is madness
Subject: War is madness
They say "war is hell", and I've never been a soldier myself to know, but it sure seems like it. I've read and seen a lot about Vietnam in particular, but McCormick hits the true pain of this war on the head with pinpoint accuracy: the senseless madness of it all, the directionless slaughter, the gore and confusion all left in the end with no vengeance, justice, or retribution - no clearly drawn lines, and not even the reverence our veterans deserved when they returned to us wartorn and mentally destroyed amputees, begging for and deserving of some sort of relief. The juxtaposition of life as we civilians know it with the split-second terrors of war that McCormick gives us in Across The Pond is heartbreaking and unforgettable. This will go down as one of the seminal pieces of Vietnam literature, that will help give insight to those decades from now who are even further from understanding this conflict. Highly recommended - powerful.
